Like any other department, the Police Forces also comprise of various positions and depending upon the qualification, candidates are considered for specific post in the same. However, in order to join the police forces as an Officer, being a graduate is mandatory. Candidate who possess a bachelors degree in any discipline may be considered eligible for Officer's position in Central as well as State Police Forces.

Basically, in order to become an Officer, one can write the following entrance examinations:
  • Civil Service Examination conducted by Union Public Service Commission to join Police Department as an Assistant Commissioner of Police.
  • Central Police Force Examination conducted by Union Public Service Commission.
  • State Level examination conducted by police recruitment board or public service commission of the respective state.
Since the minimum qualification is graduate for all the three examinations, the age limit for each of them varies. For Civil Service Examination, one must be within the age limit of 21-30 years, whereas for Central Police Force Examination, one must be within the age limit of 20-25 years. The age limit for state level examinations varies depending upon the guidelines and standards followed by each respective state police but candidates within the age limit of 20-25 years are considered eligible in most of the states.

For proper information, refer to the official website of the regulatory bodies conducting these examinations.
