currently this year i will appear for 10th SSC exam and planning for joining air force in the future. I want to be an pilot in air force and therefore i want to know the required qualifications to join air force.

sir can i join the air force after 12??

It is good that you have decided upon your destination i.e. to become a Pilot in Indian Air Force.

Now only thing that is left behind is to know the path to reach your destination. That I will provide you.

But you should be able to know how best you can utilize that path to reach your destination in the sense you have to decide upon the preparation levels to become a Pilot.

In order to join Air Force, the minimum academic qualification that is required for the candidate is 10+2.

But you have completed only 10th class. This is not a problem. Infact, this will be an added advantage for you.

You will be having good preparation towards NDA Exam for this 2 years.

NDA Exam will be conducted to recruit the candidates into

Army wing
Navy wing
Air Force wing

In order to be eligible to apply for Air Force wing, one should have completed 12th class with Mathematics and Physics as the compulsory subjects.

So, I suggest you to opt for 12th class in a stream where these subjects are available.

If you do not do so, you will loose your eligibility to become a Pilot.

you should be having an age between 16 1/2 years to 19 years by the time you apply for this exam.

So, join 12th class first. Get good subject knowledge in your academics.

Apart from that carry out your preparation towards NDA Exam also.

Dear friend you can join Indian Air Force through NDA.

NDA stands for National Defence Academy.

NDA exam is conducted by Union Public Service Commission twice time in a year for three wings.

- Army wings

- Navy wings

- Air force Wings

Eligibility criteria for NDA Examination :-

Candidate should be an Indian citizen.

For Navy / Air force wings:-

Candidate must have completed 10+2 with PCM subjects from a recognized board.

There is no minimum marks required for NDA Examination .


Age limit:-

Age should be between 16.5 years to 19 years.

There is No age relaxation for reserved categories in this exam.

Only unmarried Male candidate are eligible to apply this exam.

To Join Indian Airforce Just After Passing Class 12th, You need to apply for the UPSC NDA exams:

Educational Qualifications:
Army Wing-12th Pass in any stream
Navy & Airforce Wing- 12th Pass with Subject Physics and Maths as subjects.

For Graduates there are two ways for joining Indian Air Force as Officer i.e CDSE and AFCAT.

For Technical Posts in Indian Air Force you must be Graduate in Physics or Maths or Engineering.

For Non Technical Posts like in Ground Duty Branch any stream Graduates can apply.

Age Limit AFCAT :

For Flying Branch - 20 to 23 years

For Technical Branch - 18 to 28 years

For Ground Duty Branch - 20 to 23 years for Graduates and 20 to 25 years for Post Graduates.

Indian Air Force Can be joined basically in two ways - One after 12th through NDA and other after Graduation Degree through CDS.

As you are pursing 10th standard, so after 12th from Science you can apply for Indian Air Force through cracking NDA entrance exam.

NDA - National Defence Academy, the entrance exam for which is conducted by UPSC twice every year to join Indian Army, navy along with Air Force wing of NDA.

The eligible candidate aspiring for IAF of NDA, must be an unmarried Indian Male candidate only having either appear for the final 12th exam or pass with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics from a recognised Board within the age of 16.5 to 19 years with good Physical and Mental health.

Qualifications Required For Joining Air Force

There is no exam after class 10th which can get you direct entry to the Indian Air Force..

The exam for which you can appear is the National Defence Academy but that is only possible after the completion of your class 12th boards..

The eligibility to appear for NDA is :

>> You have to be an unmarried male

>> Age has to be more than 16 1/2 years and less than 19 years

>> You have to be a 12th pass out or 12th appearing for the exam..

>> You must have Physics and Maths as your subjects in 12th

The rounds to be cleared in NDA are :

1) Written Test

The written exam has 2 papers consisting of Maths and General Ability..

The way to Indian Air Force goes through NDA:

NDA : National Defense Academy

When you clear the exam of NDA so are up with the three wings of Defense through which you wold have passed at the time of filling form about the preference :

1) Indian Army Wing
2) Indian Air Force Wing
3) Indian Navy Wing

So all you have to crack the NDA exam to get into defense academy and further to IAF wing to full fill your dream.

Before that you have to clear you 12th with physics chemistry mathematics and the other compulsory subjects.
And also start preparing for NDA.

Qualifications Requirements to Join the Air Force:--

1. You must be a U.S. citizen or resident alien.

2. You must be at least 17 years old (17-year old applicants require parental consent) to apply and in BMT before your 28th birthday.
