Selection for IPS is done through prelims and mains exam. Candidates need to pass physical efficiency test also. Prelims exam covers questions on aptitude, Indian constitution, Indian Polity, world Geography, etc. Mains exam is based on the optional subject selected by the candidate. Further details on this can be collected from UPSC portal.

In the UPSC exams the first stage is Prelims
There are two appers in the Prelims Exams. Below is the syallabus for the Prelims exams Paper one History of India and Indian National Movement. Indian and World Geography - Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World. Indian Polity and Governance - Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc. General issues on Environmental Ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change - that do not require subject specialization. General Science. Economic and Social Development Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector initiatives, etc. Paper Two Logical reasoning and analytical ability Decision-making and problem-solving Comprehension Interpersonal skills including communication skills; General mental ability Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.) Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. English Language Comprehension skills |
