I share your empathy about your issue. I have an experience of working in a Tier 2 institution in India with minimalist of facilities and then working on a Cancer project from one of the IITs under the guidance one of the renowned researcher in the field.

I know it is really difficult to work on something which your institution is not able to provide resources for easily. In my experience, working on some kind of biomaterial based project is a good enough thing for your B. Tech project. The biomaterial such as a hydrogel, microparticles, nanoparticles can be easily synthesised with basic resources and the choice of resource is really vast considering the application you have.

I have guided my juniors for a project, It was a material based project for design of delivery agent of chemokine signalling inhibitors to the human eye. Considering this problem only, you can shortlist your resources on the basis of so many aspects like physical and chemical properties, ease of synthesis of nanoparticles (in this case), modulation to permeate upper layer of eye and other aspects. There would be a lot of materials that can fit the above criteria and you can shortlist on the basis of whats best available to you.

Other than that there are Contract research organisations (CROs) that can do test on your material for a very basic fee such as few hundred rupees for a SEM analysis or a material strength and rigidity analysis. So you can outsource your material for a very small fee to these CROs which can help you in getting results for your project if your institution doesn’t have basic infrastructure. Moreover if you are considering a small problem and you plan your study well, there are good chances that your material based project will give you expected results.

Other things which i and few of my friends have worked upon are delivering drug to tooth using micro particles, comparison of different type of alginate scaffolds for their different applications in tissue engineering.

Doing bio material based project is a good problem that you can pursue as a part of your thesis work.

Hope that answers your question, would gladly discuss if you have come across a problem of interest. Best wishes for your project.
