The last date to apply for the Civil Services Exam (conducted for IAS, IPS and other civil services) for the year 2012 has already expired on 05.03.2012.
The examination is supposed to be held on 20-05-2012.

Since you can not apply for the Civil Service Exam 2012 anymore, you will have to wait for the next year examination. The notification for the examination is usually published on the official website of Union Public Service Commission as well as in major newspapers of India. Once the notification is published, you will be able to apply online and complete instruction for applying online will be provided in the notification published by the commission.

In order to be considered eligible to write the civil service examination, you must be within the age limit of 21-30 years and must hold a bachelors degree in any discipline. The age limit is relaxed upto 3 years for candidates belonging to OBC category and 5 years for candidates belonging to Sc/St category.

For IAS examination you should be Graduation in any discipline from a recognised university.

Final year candidate can also apply if they are expecting the results before the date mentioned in the notification the exam.

IAS/IPS exam is conducted by UPSC every year and you have to pass some this exam if you want to become a IPS officer.

Age criteria for IAS exam is as follows:

-Age must be 21 to 30 years if you are from General Category .

-5 years relaxation for SC/ST category.

-3 years relaxation for OBC category.


IAS/IPS examination is conducted in following three stages:

-Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT).

-Civil services Mains Exam.

-Personal Interview

CSAT will be objective type paper and it will be qualifying in nature . Those who pass CSAT will be eligible for mains exam.

In mains you have to give optional subject exam. So you have to decide which subject to choose for optional subject.

The final merit is prepared on the basis of marks obtained in mains and interview.

Following is the age limit for different category.

General Category: 21-30 years
OBC Category: 21-33 years ( relaxation of 3 year )
SC/ST: 21-35 years ( relaxation of 5 year)
