What is the age limit required for central government jobs? Can you please give me the minimum and maximum age criteria which they will look for in central jobs? I am just not sure if I can apply or not based on my age. So, kindly give me the correct information on this. Thanks!

The age limit required for different category candidates to apply for Central Government jobs is mentioned below :-

--> General :- 21-30 years
--> OBC :- 21-33 Years
--> SC/ST :- 21-35 Years

The minimum age required to apply for Central Government jobs is 21 years and the maximum age is 30 years. Upper age relaxation is applicable to reserved category candidates as mentioned above.

I have completed MSIT., LLB., Msc., and 34yr old. my dob is 15-6-1981. Am I eligible for government exams in any category. please explain in details

Its not only about Age , but also Qualification matters to apply for a Central Government job.

~ For Civil services exam , the Maximum age limit for the General category candidates is
30 years.
For obc category , maximum age limit is 33 years
For SC , ST category candidates , age limit is 35 years
For Blind , deaf candidates , Maximum age limit is 40 years for the Civil services exam


~ For the Suninspector post in Police Department , the maximum age limit is 25 years for
the General categry candidates
For OBC category candidates , Maximum age limit is 28 years
For SC , ST category candidates , Maximum age limit is 30 years


~ Maximum age limit for the BANK PO post for General category candidates is 30 years.
Maximum age limit for the OBC Category is 33 years
Maximum age limit for the SC , ST Category candidates is 35 years.

All these exams and departments sets different educational qualifications and age criteria.

Below is the age criteria for few major governmrnt exams:

UPSC Civil services- Minimum 21 years and Maximum 30 years
UPSC Engineering Services Exams-Minimum 21 years and Maximum 30 years
BANK PO-Minimum 21 years and Maximum 30 years
BANK CLERKS-Minimum 20 years and Maximum 28 years
SSC Combined Graduate Level Exams-Minimum 18 years and Maximum 27 years
SSC Combined 12th level exams- Minimum 18 years and Maximum 27 years
UPSC NDA exams-Minimum 16.5 years and Maximum 19 years

Dear it depends on the various recruitments but actually the age limits should be in between 21 to 30 years is better and If you cross these limits then you will be in trouble to get a Central government jobs.

According to UPSC the age limits is given below.

Minimum Age : 21 years

Maximum Age : 30 years

And there is Age relaxation for any type of Central and State level government jobs for reserved categorized students.

For OBC -- 3 years

SC/ST -- 5 years

PH candidates -- 10 years .

I am Vasudha. My Date of Birth is 29th Jan 1983. So am I eligible for central and state government jobs.

My DOB is 09-02-1989 . passed my B.com graduate in 2013 and have backlogs of around 1.5 year. Currently i'm working in Mnc. want to apply for Central govt jobs. Since you born in the year 1989 & as of now you have completed 33 years & 5 months. So your chances to apply for the government jobs falls under the category whether you belong to general category or not.

1. In case of General category- You should be minimum 21 years of age & maximum 30 years of age.
2. In case of OBC category- You get 3 years of age relaxation so you can apply till the age of 36 years.
3.In case of SC/ST category-You get 5 years of age relaxation so you can apply till the age of 38 years.

You still have 3 years left to apply for any government jobs. But as you have mentioned about backlog, I must advise you to first complete your backlog then think of applying for any government jobs.

For CGL Examination conduct by Staff Selection Commission of India:
Gen- 18-27
OBC- 18-30
SC/ST- 18-32
PWD- 18-37

For Railways:
Gen- 18-33
OBC- 18-36
SC/ST- 18-38
PWD- 18-43

For Central Govt Police Service (CISF, CRPF, CAPF)
Gen- 18-25
OBC- 18-28
SC/ST- 18-30
PWD- Not Eligbile

For UPSC:
Gen- 21-30
OBC- 21-33
SC/ST- 21-35
PWD- 21-40

For other all types of jobs mostly age criteria as like UPSC age limit.

SC/ST get 5 years relaxation
OBC get 3 years relaxation
women divorced or separated get up to 2–3 year relaxation.all depends on departments
