Good evening sir,

I have a querry. If a person have spectacles, can he join NDA jobs?
I am 16 years old (studying currently in 10th standard) and i will be applying for NDA after my 12th standard. I have spectacles now of power 1.6 D.

Yes, you can apply for NDA, if you have spectacles but only if the sight is in relaxation limits of vision requirements.

The vision requirements for the candidate to join in National Defence Academy is given below :

* Candidate should have vision of 6/9 Uncorrected without glasses.

* Candidate should have vision of 6/6 corrected with glasses.

* The limits of Myopia is -075 for Navy and nil for Army/ Air Force.

* The limits of Hypermetropia is +1.5 for Navy and +2.00 D.Sph for Army/ Air Force.

* Candidates who habitually wear spectacles are not eligible for Air Force. The Minimum distant vision of 6/6 in one eye and 6/9 in other, correctable to 6/6 only for Hypermetropia.

Vision requirements for NDA :



Candidate must not have myopia in any eye.

The eyesight required in all the wings of NDA are as follows:

Army= -2.5D for Myopia and +3D for Hypermetropia
Navy= -0.75D for Myopia and +1.5D for Hypermetropia
Airforce= Myopia- Nil and +2D for hypermetropia.

Yes,spectacles candidates are eligible.

The vision requirements for NDA jobs are mentioned below :-

Vision standard for Naval candidates :-
--> Uncorrected without glass 6/6, 6/9
--> Corrected with glass 6/6, 6/6
--> Limits of Myopia -0.75
--> Limits of Hypermetropia +1.5
--> Binocular vision III
--> Limits of colour preception I

Visual standards for Air Force :-
Candidates who habitually wear spectacles are not eligible for Air Force. Minimum distant vision 6/6 in one eye and 6/9 in other, correctable to 6/6 only for Hypermetropia.
--> Colour vision CP-I
--> Hypermetropia : + 2.0 D Sph
--> Manifest Myopia : Nil
--> Retinoscopic Myopia : - 0.5 in any Meridian permitted.
--> Astigmatism : +0.75 D Cyl (within + 2.0 D-Max) Maddox Rod Test
(i) at 6 meters - Exo - 6 prism D
Eso - 6 prism D
Hyper-1 Prism D
Hypro-1 Prism D
(ii) at 33 cms - Exo - 16 Prism D
Eso - 6 prism D
Hyper - 1 prism D
Hypo - 1 prism D

NDA is an exam which offers candidates opportunity to join in defence forces of India and regarding the vision requirements, you need to satisfy the eligibility criteria mentioned below:



There are other criteria's which you need to satisfy and they include such as:

# Candidate should have citizenship in India as per the nationality standard.

# Once you attain a age between 16.5-19.5 years then you are eligible.

# You should be a unmarried male candidate to apply.

# The educational qualification needed is candidate should have completed a degree from a recognized university.

# Added to the eye sight standards you also need to satisfy the physical standards.




If you tend to satisfy all the above mentioned criteria's then you can apply for the NDA exam. To know more about the exam check at http://www.upsc.gov.in

For Indian Navy :-

Uncorrected Without Glass :- 6/9
Corrected with glass :- 6/6
Limits of Myopia :- -0.75
Limits of Hypermetropia :- +1.5
Binocular Vision :- III

For Indian Air force Exam :-

Minimum Distant vision 6/6 in one eye and 6/9 in other
correctable to 6/6 only for Hypermetropia.

Yes, you can apply for NDA, if you have spectacles Power is upto a certain limit:

Vision requirements for join NDA jobs:

1.For Army candidates
Myopia: Not more than 2.5 D. Hypermetropia: Not more than 3.5 D including Astigmatism.

2. For Navy candidates
Myopia: -0.75D
Hypermetropia: +1.5D

3.For Airforce candidates
Myopia: - Nil.
Hypermetropia: +2D .
