Am I eligible for Ph.D in Mechanical engineering with my subject of interest in NITs or IITs?


hello,

i have done my B.Tech in mechanical engineering.currently i am studying M.tech in Thermal engineering , is about to complete within may 2014.
i want to do phd from higher educational institutes in india like IIT or NIT.
But when i go through most of their advertisements about phd i found that they advertise about mechanical engineering, no doubt in the mechanical engineering advertisements contain my subject of interest.

Is i am eligible for apply for phd in mechanical engineering with my subject of interest in Nits or IIts.

please show me the right path

Yes, you are eligible to pursue Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering course from NITs and IITs after completion of your M.Tech course. Eligibility criteria required to pursue Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering from NITs or IITS is mentioned below :-

1. B.Tech/ M.Tech or equivalent degree in Mechanical Engineering with first class or 60% marks (55% for SC/ST candidates) at UG & PG levels (or)

2. B.Tech/ M.Tech or equivalent degree in Production Engineering/Industrial Engineering/ Aerospace Engineering/ Chemical Engineering with first class or 60% marks (55% for SC/ST candidates) at UG & PG levels (or)

3. B.Tech/ M.Tech or equivalent degree in other branches of Engineering/Technology with with*an*outstanding academic record will be considered for research areas consistent with their academic background and special interests of the Department.

Candidates *with only a *Bachelor's degree in Engineering must have a valid GATE * score * greater than 660 to become eligible*for the Teaching / Research Assistantship provided*by*the*Institute.

You should try to qualify GATE if you want admission in top institutes like IITs and NITs after your B.Tech completion. Normally candidates who qualify GATE go for M.Tech or a PSY job but PH.D is also an option for them if they have interest in research.

Most of the top institutes in India give admission to B.Tech graduates who have GATE/NET/JRF qualification. Hence, if you want to make it to the top institute then be ready for these exams.
