Most of the Universities have the criteria of 55% marks for admission in a Ph.D program. The candidates who belong to reserved category get relaxation of 5% marks. You have less than 50% marks and you will have difficulty in getting admission in a top college for your Ph.D program.

UGC has set this percentage criteria for Ph.D admission and if you don't fulfill this then it will be almost impossible to get admission. Master's degree with 55% marks is very essential for admission in a Ph.D program and those who have qualified NET/SLET can apply for admission without Ph.D entrance exam.
