I am Post Graduate in English Literature with 14 years of teaching experience. IS it compulsory to write the entrance exam for PhD? Where to apply for PhD in distance mode?

Yes, you can pursue PhD course through distance mode from whichever University you want to. Just make sure that you have got a Masters degree with at least 55% marks. There is relaxation of 5% marks for candidates who belong to reserved categories.

Admission will be on the basis of performance in entrance exam and interview conducted by the concerned University and hence, just apply for admission when there is an admission notification on a prescribed format.

As per the eligibility criteria if you want to pursue PhD through distance mode then definitely you have to qualify the entrance exam because nowadays it is not possible to take admission in PhD course without qualifying entrance exam, first decide in which university you want to seek admission. I would like to suggest you to take admission in IGNOU University.
