You must have a Master's degree in Sociology with at least 55% marks from a recognized university. If you belong to reserved category, then you will get 5% relaxation in marks for Ph.D admission in various universities across India.

The admission is mostly based on the entrance examination, which is conducted by the respective university in which you are applying for admission. There are some cases in which candidates will be exempted from the entrance exam, which are mentioned below.

1. Candidates with a NET/SET score or JRF fellowship will be given admission on the NET/SET score.

2. M.Phil candidates are also exempted from entrance exam and they can apply for admission on the basis of their M.Phil marks.

3. The candidates who have a teaching fellowships in the respective field are also exempted from the entrance exam.

Therefore, if you have Master's degree, then surely you can apply for Ph.D admission.

PHD in Sociology. The PhD course is for the minimum duration of two academic years.

Eligibility:- The Applicant must have passed any masters degree from any recognized university with first class academic records.

There is good scope for Phd course. A sociologist can be an advisor to the government in making policies that affect people as a society.
