Sociology is a branch of social sciences that applies systematic methods of investigation and critical analysis to develop and refine a structure of knowledge about human behavior and activities. Sometimes, all this is done with an aim to achieve social welfare. Sociology deals with the micro level to the macro level of the society. The discipline is very vast both in terms of methodology and course components.
PhD in Sociology is an academic degree awarded by many universities around the globe for extensive study and research in this subject matter. It is a very prestigious degree and is very closely related to all the other science such as psychology, economics, anthropology, political science and many more. The main aspects of sociology are social relations, stratification, dependence, culture and deviance and its approaches are both qualitative and quantitative.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for pursuing PhD in Sociology, students should be at least graduates, provided that their degrees are valid, with considerable knowledge on the concerned subject. Candidates having completed their post graduation are also eligible to enroll for this course.
Course Outlook
There is no fixed duration for the completion of one’s PhD course. One cannot earn the degree of a Doctorate till he/she has successfully presented his/her thesis with detailed study. Generally, students are given a time limit of two-three years to complete their work which can be indefinitely extended.
Job Prospects
As the name suggests, after completing this course, people can earn the tag of sociologists to their name. Moreover, they can also pursue with the discipline as professors and lecturers in universities or colleges or do research work in this field with any organization.
