The post graduates with the minimum of 55% marks are eligible to do PhD in Microbiology. The aspirant has to appear for an entrance examination and interview for the admission to the programme. If you have already cleared UGC/CSIR/JRF/NET/SLET/M.Phil/GATE then you are exempted from the entrance examination. You can contact the university department for more details. The course is available in various universities in India like;

For Ph.D admission you need to appear for entrance exam and interview conducted by the concerned university. You need to have post graduate degree in microbiology with 55% marks to become eligible for admission.

NET is not required but it will create chance for admission in top universities. Without NET you can apply for admission in low ranked universities.

To do Ph.D in Microbiology after the completion of M.Sc, you should first need to appear in the UGC NET examination.
The eligibility criteria required to appear in the UGC NET examination is that a candidate must have completed Master's Degree course from a recognized University with 55% of marks. After qualifying in the UGC NET examination, you can take admission to study Ph.D in a respective University.
There is no age criteria for NET examination.
