Actually, for each subject the syllabus for PhD differs. Generally, a syllabus for the PhD is as follows;

Course work
Pedagogy
Qualifying Examination
Preparation of Research Proposal
Thesis Work

Candidates with master degree in the relevant subject with a minimum of 55% marks from a recognized university are eligible to apply for a PhD. Candidates are admitted to the course through an entrance examination and interview conducted by the university. PhD programs are available in various universities and colleges in India.
