The Civil Services Examination is held every year in two stages- the preliminary examination and the main examination. The preliminary examination is the screening test, clearing which a student becomes eligible for the mains. The main exam has nine papers. Once a candidate clears the main examination, he or she is called for the interview. In the main examination, a candidate has to select two optional papers, commerce and accountancy being one of them. There are two papers on the subject. Both the exams are of 300 marks. along with this optional paper there are two papers on the other optional subject also, two papers on General studies, one English paper, one regional language paper, and one essay paper.
