Procedure to become a Journalist after school


I am studying in class 11th with science stream and I want to become a Journalist. What should I do? Tell me the procedure please.

Eligibility criteria for journalism:

The applicant needs to be 12th passed from any of the educational board with any stream and should have English as main subject to get admission to the course BA in journalism.

Types of journalist:

- Electronic journalism
- Print journalism

To become journalist you have to pass any one of the following:

- BA( hons) journalism( news)
- BA( hons) journalism (multimedia)
- BA(hons)/ journalism (broadcast)

To become Journalist, firstly you have to pass your 12th standard in whatever stream you want with name of 50% marks. After successful completion of your 10 + 2 you have to appear in the entrance exams for admission into institutes offering courses in Journalism which are held during May.
You have to pursue a bachelor's degree in Journalism.
The entrance test generally includes a written test and is followed up with group discussion and personal interview .
One should have a good command over current affairs in order to qualify in these entrance tests.

In order to become a journalist you must complete your 12th standard in any stream with minimum 55% marks from a recognized board. With this eligibility you have to appear for a written examination conducted the respective colleges. The selection of the candidates are done on the basis of marks secured in the examination. So, you have to prepare well for the examination.

Here are some books which will help you to prepare for journalism examination:

> Encyclopedia of Journalism by Christopher Sterling

A journalist work is to provide public with news on current events, issues and trends via print, broadcast and online media.
In order to become a journalist you will need to have a strong background in writing, reading and speaking in whatever medium you choose to work in.
After completing your senior secondary you need to go for Bachelor's degree in Journalism.Under this degree you will understand how to write for different distribution media and it also make you to understand journalistic ethics and fundamental methods of investigation like how to cultivate sources, conduct personal interviews and search new database.
After getting bachelor's degree in journalism you need to get experience from a professional newsroom.
Many colleges that offer journalism bachelor's degrees often maintain relationships with local media outlets to facilitate your access to them. In addition to experience, you can build a portfolio and make contacts that may help you obtain a job after you graduate.

Its good to see that you are interested to become a Journalist after school. First you must complete Higher Secondary Education with good marks in order to make your career in Journalism. Once, after completing 12th standard you can apply for Bachelor degree in Journalism, the course such as,
  • B.Sc in Mass Communication.
  • Bachelor degree in Journalism.
  • B.Sc in Print, Web, Broadcast and Multimedia etc.

Eligibility Criteria:

The applicant must complete 12th standard or its equivalent qualification from a recognized university. The applicant
English should have good English knowledge.

In order to become a Journalist in future after the completion of class 12th, you must have to opt a Bachelors degree in Journalism.
Candidates those who have completed their class 12th in any stream from a recognised Board with a minimum of 50% of marks in it can apply for the Bachelors degree course of Journalism or Mass communication.
So, after completing class 12th, apply for bachelors degree Journalism course, successfully completing which you can apply for a Journalist.
