The Indian government has realized the need of educating the children with a view to make way for a more aware youth, who will contribute towards the development of the nation. This is the reason for great demand for teachers in India always. Among the different teacher education courses available in India, Diploma in Education shortly called as D. Ed or DipEd.

This course is offered at a duration of one year and it is highly suitable for future teachers who are not in a position to spend two years for obtaining a B. Ed degree. D. Ed course completion certificate with good percentage of marks will be helpful for candidates to find jobs in Kindergarten schools. Eligibility requirement:

The basic eligibility requirement to seek admission to the Diploma in Education course is a higher secondary from a recognized institution. However, even degree holders in any discipline can apply for the D. Ed course.

Admission Procedure:

Colleges in some states in India admit candidates for the D. Ed course based on the merit secured by them in the qualifying examination, while some states like Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Maharashtra conducts entrance examination for admission of students to the D. Ed course. In the state of Maharashtra this examination is called as D. Ed Common Entrance Test, while in the states of Haryana and Madhya Pradesh, the examination is conducted by individual state boards of school and secondary education.

Course content:

Normally, Diploma in Education course is meant for preparing teachers for offering education at the primary school level and this course normally includes the following subjects:

After successful completion of Diploma in Education course, candidates can go for Bachelor of Education course, which will enable them to find job placement in middle schools and further taking up Master of Education course will be helpful for them in finding job placement in higher secondary schools and would offer them a great satisfaction for their passion for teaching.
