Doctor of Medicine in Clinical Pharmacology, also called as DM Pharmacology is a post graduate course in the field of medicine offered by medical colleges in India. Pharmacologists play an important role in the healthcare delivery not only in determining the safety and use of drugs, but in making personalized drugs.

Thus, DM in Clinical Pharmacology course offers students with the study of action and therapeutic usage of drugs. Even though, this course is offered by a number of private colleges in India, only a few government medical colleges offer this course and the names of these colleges are given below:

Permitted intake for D.M. Clinical Pharmacology course in these colleges:

The Medical Council of India has approved the School of Tropical Medicine to admit two students per year for this course, while the government college at Punjab is permitted to admit six students per year. On the other hand, the sanctioned intake capacity for the Osmania Medical College is one student per year, while for Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad, it is three students per year.

What are the course duration and course contents of the D.M. Clinical Pharmacology course?

Normally the duration of D.M. Clinical Pharmacology course is two years and the course includes the following syllabus:

Basics of Clinical Pharmacology

Principles of drug actions, molecular mechanisms of drug action

Pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetics

Principles of drug therapy

Drug usage in special clinical conditions

Drug monitoring

Eligibility for seeking admission to the DM in Clinical Pharmacology course:

For seeking admission to the DM clinical pharmacology course, candidates must have completed their MBBS course and MD in clinical pharmacology from a recognized institution. Candidates must also get through the All India level examination for seeking admission to this course in the aforesaid government colleges.
