Samastipur is one of the 38 districts in the state of Bihar and the headquarters of the district is the city of Samastipur. The district is spread over an area of 2904 km2 and it had a population of more the 27 lakh people according to the census conducted in the year 2001. The district is divided into four subdivisions namely Samastipur Sadar, Rosera, Patori and Dalsinghsarai.

When it comes to agriculture in the district, Maize and paddy are the main crops and when it comes to industries, the district has Jute Mills, Paper Mills and Sugar Factories. The district is divided into 21 blocks and the district acts as the home for The Rajendra Agricultural University. The district people mainly speak Hindi and the district is bounded by the Muzaffarpur District and Khagaria District and on the southern side the district is bounded by the Ganges.

Higher Education in Samastipur District:

When it comes to educational infrastructure in Samastipur District, it is lagging behind in this scenario and the literacy rate of the district is also lower at 45.13% even though, the district acts as the home of the Rajendra Agricultural University. the male literacy rate of the district is 57.59% and the female literacy rate is 31.67%. Even though, the district has lesser educational infrastructural facilities, it has some reputed colleges like Dr. LKVD College, SMRCK College, St. Kabir College, RNR College, BRB College and Samastipur College. Samastipur College:

Samastipur College came into existence in the year 1947 and the college is working under the control of the Government of Bihar. The college offers arts, science and commerce education with affiliation from the Lalit Narayan Mithila University located in Darbhanga. The Arts faculty functioning in the college offers courses through Psychology, Political Science, philosophy, economics, history, Maithili, Sanskrit, Urdu, Hindi and English subjects. The Science faculty of the college offers B. Sc in Zoology, Botany, Mathematics, Chemistry and physics subjects. The institute has also earned permission from the state government for offering PG courses. In addition, the college also acts a study centre for IGNOU University thereby offering courses under distance education mode for IGNOU.

With this single government college and many private colleges, Samastipur District is offering the best possible education and the district is also developing its educational facilities to offer the students with the best infrastructural facilities.
