The CLAT Entrance Exam is conducted for candidate’s admission into under graduate law programs. The CLAT Entrance Exam consists of 200 multiple choice questions and it carries the maximum of 200 marks.

Structure of the CLAT entrance exam

The duration of CLAT exam is for 2 hours. The General Knowledge section carries 50 marks. The English Comprehension section for 40 marks and mathematics section will be for 20 marks. Most of the maths will be of elementary level. The Legal GK and aptitude is one of the toughest parts and this carries 45 marks. The candidate should read all news about law and court cases. The CLAT entrance exam also includes reasoning section which carries 45 marks. This section is to analysis the candidate’s ability to identify patterns, logical links etc.

Syllabus of the CLAT entrance exam

The CLAT Entrance test covers five sections such as English, General Knowledge or Current affairs, Elementary mathematics, Logical GK and Logical Reasoning. The English Comprehension will include passages and grammar, meanings of words used therein, incorrect grammatical sentences, filling in of blanks etc. In GK and Current Affairs test students their knowledge of current affairs and Mathematics include elementary level maths till class 10. In the Logical Reasoning section identifying patterns, illogical arguments, syllogisms, sequences, analogies, etc are included.

The candidate can buy books like Merriam Webster or Wren and Martin Vocabulary Builder to work on English.

Study Plan for the CLAT entrance exam

The candidate should try to spend at least an hour everyday for reading good news papers like Hindu as to improve on the General Knowledge. They can also subscribe to competitive magazines like Competition Master or CSR. The candidate can search for latest news in the web and they should watch everyday news. Moreover, the candidate can join a law related website for latest updates on Legal GK. They can also read law news from website. The candidate should know the logical thoughts about how decisions are made by court.

As to score excellent marks in mathematics, the candidates should learn all the algebraic formulas. They need to work on commercial math topics like profit and loss and percentage. Try to solve many exercises and sample question papers. This practice will increase speed and accuracy. The candidate can refer some books or sample questions available in the web. You can practice from previous year CLAT papers. The National Law School India University introduced a book and it has last 16 years question papers. They can purchase this book from the University.
