Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test- 2013
Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test is conducted by Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) for the students of class V. Selection test comprise questions on mental ability, numerical ability and language test. Those who qualify the test can join class VI in any of the Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) at free of cost.
Overview of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test
Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test is conducted for the selection of candidates to Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs). Navodaya Vidyalayas are residential schools financed and managed by Government of India under the management of Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti. The selection test is conducted for students of class V. Qualifying the exam makes them eligible to join Class VI in any of the JNVs (of the concerned state) and can have later education, up to 12th class, at free of cost. Irrespective of this condition, each student needs to pay a nominal fee of Rs. 200/- from IX to XII class.
Eligibility Criteria for Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test
Candidates from those districts where Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya’s are open are only eligible. Age of the student must be anywhere between 8 and 12 years (applicable for reserved category candidates also). Also the applicant must be a student of class V for the whole academic section. The school of study must be government aided or it must be under the scheme of ‘Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan’/ ‘B’ certificate competency course of National Institute of Open Schooling.
Pattern for Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test
There will be 100 questions for the test, carrying 1 mark each. Duration of the test will be two hours.
Questions will be asked from three major sections.
- Mental ability Test
- Arithmetic Test
- Language Test
Total number of questions is 100. There will be 50 questions from mental ability section and 25 questions each from the sections of Arithmetic and Language Test. Out of the total time of 2 hours, one hour time is allocated for answering mental ability section. The section covers questions on figures and diagrams only. Rest of the one hour time is distributed equally among arithmetic and language test sessions. Arithmetic test is meant to measure the numerical ability of the candidate where as language test is to assess their reading comprehension. Answers must be written in a separate sheet using a black/blue ball point pen.
Application forms for attending the test should reach the address of Block Education Officer before deadline date. Admit cards are also issued through the office of Block Education Officer.
