Adikavi Nannaya University was formed in the year 2006 through a state Government Act of the state of Andhra Pradesh. The university was given this name in honor of a poet who lived in the eleventh century named Nannayabhatta. He was the first person to translate the great epic Mahabharata to Telugu. The aim of the university is to combine the contemporary demands and pristine glory of educational excellence. The university strives to become an active contributor to the always-developing field of knowledge. The emblem of the university expresses the intellectual and cultural wealth, plenitude and splendor of the West and East Godavari Districts in the Andhra Pradesh state. Under the aegis of this university a number of courses in the fields of knowledge like arts, humanities, physical & life sciences, applied sciences and engineering are offered. Since the university is just four years old, only two colleges are presently under the jurisdiction of the university. But, all the degree and post graduate degree colleges in both west and east Godavari districts will soon be coming under the jurisdiction of this university. The campus of the Adikavi Nannaya University is provided with several facilities like placement cell, hostel facilities, computer center, library and research and development wing. In addition to offering under-graduation and post-graduation courses, the university is also offering integrated five-year courses in M. Sc Biotechnology, economics, maths & computing, microbiology and petroleum & exploration. The authorities of the university is hoping that the present fledging university will soon be becoming a crowning jewel among the universities located not only in India, but also in other countries as well.
