Jawaharlal Nehru University shortly called as JNU is situated at the capital city of India, New Delhi. The university is mainly a post-graduate research oriented university that was found in the year 1969 by an act of parliament. The university was named after the late prime minister of India Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

The objective of the founders of the university is to make it an important institution in the country of India for higher education and their aim is also to promote teaching and research so as to engage the teachers and students of the university in higher level of academic work. The Jawahalal Nehru University is placed among the top 200 universities all over the world according to the Internation League Tables produced in the year 2006 by the Times Higher Education Supplement, which is a London based magazine. It is also ranked among the top 100 universities all over the globe for biological and life sciences. Furthermore, the school of social sciences working under the university has bagged 57th rank among the top 100 institutes of social sciences all over the world.

Ten schools and four centers of education are functioning under the university. Also, the university has signed Memorandum of Understanding with 71 foreign universities. The campus of the university is spread over an area of 1000 acres located at the southern part of the city of New Delhi. The campus also includes a central library that is housed in a nine-storey building, which includes several books and magazines pertaining to different fields of education.
