JSS University was formed in the year 1954 by Jagadguru Dr. Sri. Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji and the university is run by J.S.S Mahavidyapeetha, which is running more than 300 institutions right from primary education schools to post-graduation colleges and research programmes in the fields of management, law, arts & science, engineering & technology, medical sciences, etc…

More than 40000 students are enrolled in the different institutions run by JSS vidyapeetha and it has given employment to more than 10000 people. In simple terms, it can be described as the largest employer and education provider in the city of Mysore.

With a view of strengthening its academic efforts, the JSS mahavidyapeetha requested the Indian Government to grant Deemed University status to some of its leading educational institutions. Based on this request, Government of India’s Ministry of Human Resource Management, declared Jagadguru Sri Shrivarathreeshwara University the status of Deemed University Under University Grants Commission Act 1956 on the 28th of May 2008.

JSS University hopes to develop as one of the country’s comprehensive universities in the 21st century. The university has got good recognition for the quality of post-graduate and undergraduate professional courses offered and for the effectiveness and outreach of its research programmes.

The mission of the university is to create applicable knowledge, develop and nurture the talents of students with a view to support the socio-economic development of the nation. The campus of the university is well equipped with facilities like library, laboratories, hostels and special accommodation for students from foreign countries. The university is offering undergraduate, postgraduate, post-graduate diploma and doctoral programmes as well.
