Punjab Agricultural University was established in the year 1962 with the purpose of serving the state of Punjab. After the year 1966, when the state of Punjab was divided into three parts, Haryana Agricultural University and Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidhyala were formed out of Punjab Agricultural University in the year 1970 in the month of February and July respectively. The university is located in the city of Ludhiana at a distance of about 316 km from the City of New Delhi in the northwestern part of the country. At present, the university is offering 30 Ph. D courses and 31 master’s degree courses through its four constituent colleges and the university is regularly revising the curriculum of the courses offered by it for the purpose of keeping in pace with the latest advancements in the field of agriculture and allied fields. The list of constituent colleges coming under the jurisdiction of this university is given below:

• College of Agriculture

• College of Agricultural Engineering

• College of Basic Sciences & Humanities

• College of Home Science

Previously, one more college being the college of Veterinary Science was also functioning under the university. But, this college was upgraded as Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Science University in the year 2006. The Punjab Agricultural University has played an important role in increasing the production of food grains in the local region and it has made prominent contributions in developing the poultry and livestock production as well. The university has received the ‘best agricultural university in India’ award in the year 1995, for its outstanding contributions to extension, education and research activities in the field of agriculture. The campus of the university covers an area of 4615 acres at the regional research stations and 1510 acres on its main campus at Ludhiana. The campus of the university has well equipped laboratories, lecture rooms, library and elaborate farm facilities.

    My basic qualifications are M.A(English),B.ed.But I have studied science in +2. I am a teacher by profession.But I am interested in some course in agriculture with purpose to have better understanding of my family work which is agriculture basically.
    Please suggest me a good course Which gives me basic knowledge of agriculture preferably some cc course. I am not looking for any job in this field.Thanks
