Bhagwant University began its journey in the year 1999 in the name of Bhagwant Institute of Technology, which was affiliated to the Uttar Pradesh Technical University at the time of its inception. This institute of Technology was established by the Bhagwant Group of Institutions, who established another institution in the name of Bhagwant College of Education in the year 2002, which was approved by the NCTE and CCS University.
Later the year 2004, they introduced Ajmer Institute of Technology and in the year 2005 Bhagwant Institute of Pharmacy as well, thereby offering courses under different faculties of education. Later, all the institutions established by the Bhagwant Group of Institutions, were brought under the name of Bhagwant University, which was awarded the status of State University by an Act of Rajasthan State Legislature in the year 2008.

Bhagwant University admits students to the Bachelor of Technology courses through CCB on the basis of AIEEE score. As far as admission to the other courses are concerned, Bhagwant University follow entrance examinations like BUCET, UJET and ENAT and scores of the students in entrance examinations like MAT and CAT are also considered for admission to the MBA courses. Lateral Entry to the second year of the Bachelor of Technology courses are offered to Diploma holders in appropriate disciplines of engineering.
