Hidayatullah National Law University is located in the city of New Raipur in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh and the university was given this name in honor of the former Chief Justice Mohammad Hidayatullah. The university holds the pride of being one of the esteemed institutions for law education in the nation. It is a residential university and is the sixth university among the law universities in the nation.

The name of this university has been entered in the list of universities working under the control of University Grants Commission under section 2 (f) of the University Grants Commission Act 1956 and has been declared to be fit to earn grants from UGC under section 12 (b) of its Act.

Objectives of Hidayatullah National Law University:

Hidayatullah National Law University shortly called as HNLU was established by the Chhattisgarh Government for attainment of the following objectives:

• To advance professional education and also to offer adequate orientation and training for judicial officers and others engaged in the field of justice and administration

• To prepare and train lawyers to national and international repute with ethical values and higher moral values

• To develop a sense of responsibility for servicing the society in the field of law by development of skills pertaining to advocacy, judicial and other legal services, law reforms and legislation and related fields to the research scholars and students

• To disseminate and advance learning and knowledge of law and research with a view to ensure its proper role in the development of the nation
