Karuna University came into existence in the year 1986 as Karunya Institute of Technology and Science and it is a fully-residential university under private ownership located in the city of Coimbatore in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Previously, the institute was affiliated to the Bharathiar University located in Coimbatore as a self-financing engineering institution and it got university status in the year 2004 as a rewards towards the educational excellence shown by the institution thereby changing its name as Karunya University. The university earned eighth rank with respect to its infrastructure according to a survey conducted by the Data Quest Magazine.
