Maharashtra University of Health Sciences came into existence in the year 1998 on the 3rd of June and this university is located in the district of Nashik in Maharashtra. The university was established by the Government of Maharashtra through an ordinance dated 21st January 1999. The university began its operations from the 10th of June 1998 and all institutions and colleges offering education in the field of health sciences in the state of Maharashtra were brought under the affiliation of this university.
Maharashtra University of Health Sciences was established with the objective of ensuring systematic and proper training, teaching, instruction and conducting qualitative research in the field of not only modern medicine, but in the field of Indian alternative medicines as well. The university has regional centres at Kolhapur, Nagpur, Aurangabad, Pune and Mumbai. Within a short period of the establishment of this university, the government of Maharashtra appointed a team of experts to review and progress the working of this university and to recommend measure for modification of the functions of the university (if any). This was done to ensure that the best educational service is offered by the university in the field of medicine and allied disciplines.
