Satyabama University is a privately owned university that was established in the year 1988 as Sathyabama Engineering College. The institution was established by the Jeppiaar Educational Trust and it is operating from the city of Chennai.

The institute was inaugurated in the year 1988 as Satyabama Engineering College by the former chief minister of the state of Tamil Nadu Mrs. Janaki Ramachandran. The institute was later named as Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology and it is a Christian minority institution. The university has earned B++ status from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council and it is also an ISO 9001:2008 institution. The institution earned the status of deemed university in the year 2006 on the 13th of September.

The university has more than 200 faculty members and more than 100 doctorates, who have already registered for Ph. D course. Normally, admission of students to the Engineering courses offered by the Satyabama University is done based on the marks secured by the students in the Common Entrance Examination. Every year, the university advertises regarding the issue of application forms for Entrance examination in leading newspapers all over India and notification is also published in the university’s website. The entrance examination is conducted in all major cities in India and application form for entrance examination has to be obtained in person from the administrative officer of the university. The university also arranges for placement facilities to the students and it has a very good placement record.
