The Saurashtra University is one of the important universities located in the city of Rajkot in the state of Gujarat. The university came into existence in the year 1967 on the 23rd of May with its administrative headquarters in the district of Rajkot. The university has its jurisdiction in the districts like Surendrangar, Rajkot, Porbandar, Junagadh, Jamnagar and Amreli and more than 250 colleges working in these districts are affiliated to the Saurashtra University. It is public university approved by the University Grants Commission.
The colleges affiliated to Saurashtra University are offering different courses like M. Ed, MCA, MBA, M.E, M.D, M. Sc and Master of Social Work. In addition to these courses, the university is also offering different courses through its own departments functioning under the campus of the university and some of these departments are department of journalism, department of bioscience, department of business management, department of chemistry, department of Commerce, computer science and department of economics. The university has an Internal Quality Assurance Cell, which is functioning with the approval of the University Grants Commission and this cell conducted an Annual Lecture Series in the campus of the university during the academic year 2005-2006. Saurashtra University also has an alumni association and the old students of the university can register with this association through the website of this university.
Saurashtra University has recently earned re-accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council with Grade B status. The university aims to be the vanguard of knowledge in the field of higher education with a view to achieve greater international heights.
