The degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) is awarded to a candidate who has submitted a thesis based on the original and independent research in any specific subject that makes a contribution to the improvement of knowledge. The thesis must be approved by the examiners as per the rules and regulations of that particular university. Part time research scholars are those who pursue their Ph.D irrespective of their employment status.

Course Details

The candidates who want to register for Ph.D course must have completed a Master’s degree or M.Phil degree in the concerned stream with at least 50% marks. The candidates must have passed the qualifying exam from any university recognized by the University Grants Commission or Association of Indian Universities. There is no age limit for the applicant. The post graduate candidates who have registered for the part time Ph.D course have to work for a minimum period of 4 years and a maximum of 6 years. Those with M.Phil qualification have to work for a minimum of three years and a maximum of five years. Every candidate registered for the Ph.D programme has to work under the continuous supervision of a recognized Research Supervisor.

Submission of Thesis

The candidates have to submit the thesis to the University along with the certificates and fees before three months from the date of submission. The time of submission can be extended up to a maximum of two years. For this, they have to remit the fees prescribed from time to time. A candidate will be eligible for the Ph.D degree only if he/she has pursued the research work for a period of not less than four years.
