How B.Tech(Civil) candidates can join Central Railways as ‘Section Engineer’?

Those who have completed Bachelor of Technology in Civil Engineering can join as Section Engineer in Central Railways. Candidates who are in the age group of 20 – 35 years are eligible to apply for this post. Recruitment to the post is carried out on the basis of written test, document verification and medical test. Eligible candidates must attend and pass the selection process of Central Railways to get appointed as ‘Section Engineer’.

Eligibility Criterion to join Central Railways as ‘Section Engineer’

Candidates who have completed Bachelor of Technology in Civil Engineering from a recognized University can apply for the post of Section Engineer in following departments

  • Bridge
  • Works
  • Estimator/ Drawing/ Design

Candidates who have completed graduation through Distance learning will be considered ineligible. Apart from this, final year candidates who are awaiting results cannot apply for the post. Candidates should have completed minimum age of 20 years at the time of application. Those who are more than 35 years are not eligible to apply.

Candidates belonging to Scheduled caste and Scheduled tribe can claim 5 year relaxation in upper age limit. Those who are belonging to Other Back Ward Class are eligible to seek relaxation in upper age limit up to 3 years. Candidates who are physically challenged can enjoy age relaxation up to 10 years. Those who are domicile of Jammu and Kashmir can enjoy age relaxation up to 5 years as per the norms issued by the Government of India.

Selection Procedure

Recruitment to the post of Section Engineer in Central Railways is based on written test, document verification and medical test. Written test will contain multiple choice objective type questions from the following topics

  • General Awareness
  • Arithmetic
  • General Intelligence
  • Reasoning
  • Technical Ability

There will be a maximum of 150 questions. Candidates will be given up to 2 hours so as to answer all the questions. Medium of instructions will be Hindi, Urdu, English and a regional language opted by the candidate. 1/3rd of the total marks allotted for each question will be reduced for every wrong answer. Those who have cleared the written test will be short listed for further test. Candidates will have to undergo document verification as a part of selection procedure. Candidates are required to submit the originals of relevant documents for verification. Selected candidates will be sent for medical test conducted by the Recruitment Board. Candidates should be medically fit and posses all the physical standards prescribed in the notification by the Board.
