Recruitment to the post of Kolkata Police Constable is conducted on the basis of physical test as well as written test. A pass in matriculation is the minimum educational qualification required. Candidates between the age group of 18 and 27 years are eligible to apply. Application fee is Rs. 150/-.

Eligibility Criterion

A pass in Matriculation or a pass in Madhyamik Examination under West Bengal Board of Secondary Education is the basic educational qualification required for the post of Kolkata Police Constable. Only Indian citizens are eligible to apply. Candidates who have completed 18 years of age at the time of application are eligible to apply. Upper age limit is 27 years. Candidates belonging to reserved categories can avail relaxation up to 5 years as per the prevailing norms. Apart from the educational qualifications, candidates should be physically fit for the post.

Candidates are required to have a minimum height of 167 centimeters, minimum chest of 78 centimeters with minimum expansion of 5 centimeters by inhalation and minimum weight proportionate to height and age as per medical standards. Female candidates are required to have minimum height of 160 centimeters, and minimum weight proportionate to height and age as per medical standard.  Candidates belonging to certain categories such as Gorkhas, Garwalis, Rajbansis and ST can avail relaxation in terms of body height and weight.

Selection procedure

Candidates who wish to join Kolkata Police Constable recruitment process will have to clear physical as well as written test. Candidates will have to undergo Physical Measurement Test first. Those who have cleared this test will be called for Physical Efficiency Test. As a part of this test, candidates will have to run 1600 meters within a time limit of 6 minutes and 30 seconds. Female candidates are required to run 400 meters within 2 minutes.

Candidates who have qualified the physical tests will be short listed for written test. Candidates can expect objective type multiple choice questions in written test. There will be questions from topics such as Current Affairs, General knowledge, General English, Basic Mathematics and Analytical Aptitude. Maximum marks allotted for the screening test is 90. Time duration of the exam is 90 minutes. There will be negative marking for wrong answers. Candidates who have cleared the written test will be called for final interview. Final selection will be based on the scores obtained in written test as well as in personal interview.

Application Procedure

Candidates who wish to apply for the post of Police Constable are required to pay the examination fee of Rs. 150/- through postal order or by taking a demand draft in favor of “Kolkata Police Recruitment Board” payable in Kolkata. Application form can be downloaded from the official website of Kolkata police. Fully filled in application form, along with supporting documents should be sent to Kolkata Police Recruitment Board within stipulated time.
