Registered Nurse - How to become a registered nurse?
Registered Nurse is an inevitable part of a health care organization. The primary duties of Registered Nurse will include treating the patients, educating the patients about their health condition and giving emotional support to patient’s family. They will also give advice to the patients about the precautions to be taken to avoid the illness. They will suggest good diet and exercises to be taken by the patients. It is their responsibility to give counseling to the family members of the patients suffering from critical diseases.
They will also record the medical history of the patients, assist in analyzing the results of various tests and operate medical instruments.
Qualifying Exam
Registered Nurse should possess either Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BDN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN). Diploma holders in Nursing can also become Registered Nurse. Candidates who hold Nursing degree or Diploma should obtain registration from Nursing Council of India to become Registered Nurse. They should write an exam to obtain that registration. Registered Nurse can also do specializations in pediatrics, ambulatory care and many other areas. Such nurses can get more salary in health care organizations.
Who are eligible to apply?
Candidates should pass plus two or its equivalent with Physics, Chemistry and Biology to apply for degree or diploma in nursing. They need to qualify in the entrance exam conducted by the concerned Institution offering nursing courses. They will get admission to nursing courses after qualifying this entrance exam. After completing nursing courses, they can do specialization in many fields.

Registered nurses should possess excellent communication skills to interact with patients and their family. They should develop a positive mentality to serve their patients well. They should be able to understand the needs of the patients. They should be able to interpret the sentences and paragraphs written in the work related documents. They should be able to make critical decisions in any difficult situation. They should have better knowledge about the symptoms, treatment and medication of several diseases. They should be also aware of several preventive health care measures.
