R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata is affiliated to the West Bengal University of Health Sciences. It is considered as one of the oldest institutions in whole of West Bengal. The Institution came into existence on the 20th December, 1916. The founder of the R.G. Medical College and Hospital is Dr. Radha Gobinda Kar. Currently the finance minister of the state is the President of the governing body of the college.

Campus

The College has many buildings and it has a huge infrastructure. The campus has very good facilities considering the libraries and the classrooms and the laboratories that must be present in a medical college. There are provisions for huge car parking and also there is a new building coming up. The library is equipped with more than 30000 books and there are additional journals and magazines.

Courses Offered

R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital offers many courses. Some of them are: In the undergraduate level it offers MBBS course in which the total seats available is 150. In the Post Graduate Level it offers MS, MD and diploma courses in 12 disciplines. It also offers B.Sc in Nursing

Admission Procedure

The admission is made on the basis of merit in the states Joint Entrance Examination. There are also reservations that are there which is according to the rules of the Government of India. The marks obtained in the examination are the sole criteria for admission to the College.

Placements

The placements that take place in the college are from the state. Many of them also practice in the hospitals while some of them open their private clinics.
