Mathematics is an integral part of matriculation or equivalent examination all over the globe. In the Tamil Nadu Board Matriculation Exam, there are two papers on Mathematics. The duration of the second paper is 2.5 hours and the maximum marks are 100.

Paper pattern

The second paper of Mathematics in the Tamil Nadu Board has three parts. The pattern is discussed in details in the following.

The first part has two sections- Section A and Section B.

Section A

Section A has 20 questions and all of them are compulsory. Each question has four alternative answers and out of them one is correct. The questions in Section A are set in such a way that they cover the entire syllabus.  The questions are from Algebra, geometry, trigonometry, statistics, probability etc. Each question carries 1 mark.

Section B

Section B has 15 questions, out of which ten are to be answered. Each question is of 2 marks. The questions are not descriptive in nature in this section.

Section C

After section B, part II of the paper starts.  In part II four sections are there- C to F. In section C there are three questions from geometry. Two are to be answered. The questions are actually related to proving of geometrical theorems. Each question carries 5 marks.

Section D

In Section D there are four questions out of which three are to be answered. Each question is of 5 marks.

Section E

Section E consists of questions from trigonometry. Two out of three questions are to be answered. Each question is of 5 marks.

Section F

Section F consists of four questions out of which three are to be answered. Each question carries 3 marks.

Section G

After this part III of the paper is there. Section G forms this part. There are two questions in this section, and students have to answer any one. This question is of 10 marks.
