Class 10 examination which is controlled by CBSE (Central Board o Secondary Education) comprises of six subjects in whom four are compulsory, one is language and one is optional. Science, Mathematics and Social Science are compulsory subjects.

Admission Procedure Details:

As the syllabus prescribed at Secondary level is of two years integrated course, no admission shall be taken in Class X directly. Provided further that admission to Class X in a school shall be open only to such a student who:

(a) Has completed a regular course of study for class IX, and

(b) Who has completed class 9 examinations from any institution approved by the CBSE.

(c) A student who has completed a regular course of study for Class IX and has passed Class IX examination from an institution recognized by/affiliated to any recognized Board in India, other than this Board, can be admitted to a school only on the transfer of the parent(s) or shifting of their families from one place to another, after procuring from the students the mark sheet and the Transfer Certificate duly countersigned by the Educational Authorities of the Board concerned. Pattern of CBSE class 10:

From the academic year 2010-11, CBSE follows a new system of evaluation called as Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation, which evaluates the students based on the approved grades.  It comprises formative and summative assessment of the student to be done over two terms – first and second -during the year-long academic calendar.

Summative Assessment: Based on the term-end examination Formative Assessment: To evaluate and grade class work, homework, assignment and project work

1) There will be two evaluations each in the first and second terms.

2) Each evaluation will carry 10 marks apiece. 1) There will be one term-end exam for each term.

2) The first term-end exam will carry 20 marks.

3) The second term-end exam will carry 40 marks.

EVALUATION:

Students of class IX and X will be evaluated on a 9-point grading system.

Eligibility for Class 10:

a) Passed the Middle School Examination(class VIII) of a Board or of an affiliated/recognized school at least two years earlier than the year in which he would take Secondary(Class X) examination conducted by the Board/Senior Secondary School affiliated to the Board;

(b) Qualified Class IX examination by obtaining minimum Grade D in all the five subjects (excluding 6th additional subject) of study under Scholastic Area A and grades in subjects under Scholastic Area B and Co- scholastic Areas atleast one year earlier than the year in which she/he would take the Secondary(Class X) examination conducted by the Board/Senior Secondary School affiliated to the Board

(c) Passed Class IX examination from a school recognized by/affiliated to any other recognized Board in India atleast one year earlier than the year in which she/he would take the Secondary(Class X) examination conducted by the Board/Senior Secondary school affiliated to the Board.
