Information regarding Assistant Loco Pilot Exam
Assistant Loco Pilot exam is conducted by Railway Recruitment Board for recruiting candidates to Assistant Loco Pilot post. This exam includes three sections i.e Written Examination, Aptitude Test and Documentation and Candidature Verification. Candidates can attend next stage only after qualifying the previous one. Only objective type questions will be asked in written examination while psychological tests will be there in Aptitude test. Documentation and Candidature Verification section is for verifying the documents of candidates. After Documentation and Candidature Verification, there will be medical fitness test for the candidates. Appointment will be given only if they get qualified in the fitness test.
Eligibility Criteria
Those who apply for Assistant Loco Pilot Exam should pass 10th standard or equivalent examination under 10+2 pattern from any recognized Board of Examination. Apart from that, they should be an apprentice or have completed I.T.I in any of the following trades.
- Armature & Coil Winder
- Electrician
- Electronics Mechanic
- Fitter
- Heat Engine
- Instrument Mechanic
- Machinist
- Mechanic Diesel
- Mechanic Motor Vehicle
- Mechanic Radio & T.V
- Mill Wright/ Maintenance Mechanic
- Refrigeration & A.C. Mechanic
- Tractor Mechanic
- Turner
- Wireman
Diploma or Bachelor degree holders in Electronics/ Electrical /Automobile/ Mechanical Engineering can also apply for this exam, if they have completed their course from any institute recognized by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE).
Candidates can apply for the exam only if their age is not less than 18 and not more than 30 years. OBC candidates can have 3 years of age relaxation while SC/ST candidates can have 5 years of age relaxation.
Exam Pattern
Written Examination
A total of 120 questions will be asked in the written test covering the following areas.
- Arithmetic Ability
- General Awareness
- General English
- Reasoning
- Technical subjects
General English, Arithmetic Ability and Reasoning sections will have 15 questions each and General Awareness section will include a total of 40 questions. A maximum of 55 questions will be asked from Technical subjects, which will be divided as
- Mechanical Engineering – 30 questions
- Electrical Engineering – 20 questions
- Basic Electronic Energy – 5 questions
If the candidate give any incorrect answer, then 1/3 marks will be reduced from their total marks. Medium of this written examination will be English, Urdu or Hindi.
Aptitude Test
Different types of Psychological Aptitude Tests will be included in this section. Some of those tests include
- Memory test
- Direction test
- Concentration test
- Brick test
- Digit search test
- Similarity test
Overall performance of the candidates will be considered while computing their scores.
Documentation and Candidature Verification
In this stage, the documents produced by the candidates will be verified for validity. They should produce their original certificates during verification.
Application Procedure
Candidates can download the application form for Assistant Loco Pilot Exam from the RRB website. Then they should fill the form as per the instructions given on the prospectus and send it to the Member Secretary of the concerned RRB. An examination fee of Rs. 40/- should be paid in the form of demand draft or post order taken in the name of Member Secretary of the corresponding RRB. Applicants can also opt for online submission while applying for the exam. In this case, they have to pay the fee through online payment facilities. Women/SC/ST/ Buddhist/Muslim/ Zorastrian/Sikh/ candidates and Ex-Service men will be exempted from paying the examination fee.
