Internship Programme in Indian Institute of Astrophysics is offered for college/university students with good academic records (not less than 60% marks from 10th till graduation/post graduation). Usual duration of the internship programme is 3-4 months. Interested candidates can submit applications through the head of the department from the college they studied.

Internship Programme in Indian Institute of Astrophysics

Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) conducts internship programme, with the basic objective of encouraging the scientific/research skills in college/university students. By this, students can have the opportunity to work with on ongoing research projects in IIA. They are asked to work either in the main campus of IIA (Bangalore) or in its field stations. Candidates selected for internship programme in IIA must have good academic records. They should have consistent score above 60%, right from 10th till graduation/post graduation.

Internship Programme in IIA for Non – Ph.D students

Usually final/pre-final year students are considered for internship programme. They must have interest in doing mini projects in related areas of astrophysics or astronomical instrumentation. Eligible candidates must be studying any of the courses as mentioned below.

• Master of Philosophy
• Bachelor of Engineering/ Technology
• Master of Engineering/ Technology
• Master of Science

Those who have completed their qualifying degree within previous 6 months are also eligible to apply.

Usual duration of the internship programme is four months. It must be carried out in a single stretch without any breaks. Students must submit applications to participate in the programme with a brief summary of the project they would like to carry out. They should also submit a recommendation letter from the institute staff member who coordinates or guides them with the internship program. The programme is offered only for one time and those who visited the institute during previous years are not eligible to attend again.

Internship Programme in IIA for Ph.D students

Students carrying out doctorate programmes are also eligible to apply under the category. They can apply only for one time and the usual duration in the case is three months.

Application Procedure for Internship Programme in Indian Institute of Astrophysics

Eligible candidates interested in undergoing internship programme at IIA should submit applications through their head of the department. Address for submitting applications is ‘the Board of Graduate Studies, Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Koramangala, Bangalore 560 034’. This must be done at least 3 months before the commencement of the proposed project.  Applications must be included with copies of mark sheets, project abstract and recommendation letter.  Those who require hostel facility should intimate the same in the application form.
