Calcutta Medical College Hospital, Kolkata was the first European medicine college of Asia and was set up in the year 1835. This institution is also the first hospital of India. This college is one of the finest medical colleges in India and is also an excellent hospital providing relief to common people. The college has got a very rich heritage which is visible everywhere inside the enclosure of the institute.
The college is funded and maintained by Government of West Bengal and has the affiliation of West Bengal University of Health Sciences.
Courses Offered
The range of the courses offered by the college is wide and diverse. Undergraduate and postgraduate medical course along with nursing, paramedical and technician courses are offered to the students to opt from by the college. The most common of them are MBBS, MD, MS and DGO. Also there are numerous departments present which include,
Radio therapy and nuclear medicine; Obstetrics & Gynaecology; Opthalmology; Neurology; Haematology; Physiology; Biochemistry; Anatomy; Forensic & state medicine; Cardiology; Endocrinology; Paediatrics; Dentistry; ENT; Orthopaedics etc.
Campus
The college is located in the north-west section of the campus and consists of different blocks which include the administrative block which is the clock tower; the library of the college; auditorium; common room; various departments like anatomy department, chemistry department etc and a group of lawns for sports purpose.
Admission Criteria
The admission into this esteemed institute is the dream of all medical aspirants. The selection is done through the WBJEE for medical and the ones who secure the topmost ranks get the admission. Also the candidate should have HS or equivalent passing certificate with subject combination of English, physics, chemistry and biology.
