North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Sciences was establihsed as an autonomous institute under the Government of India. The institute was established in the year 1987 under the Meghalaya Registration of Societies Act 1983. The institute was established in the memory of Former Prime Minister of India, Late Indira Gandhi. The institute has the prime objective of providing excellent education to the people of North Eastern Region. The institute now also provided Post Graduate Coyrse in Medical.
