IFS exam is conducted by Union Public Services commission to select officers to take care of India’s forest reserves. The exam is similar to other UPSC exams i.e. it has both written exam and interview. The exam with all the papers is of 1400 marks. Students selected through written exams are invited for interview. It is important to understand the paper pattern before appearing for it.

Indian Forest Services examination for chemical engineering consists of two papers. Each paper consists of two sections which usually has 4 questions each. There is one compulsory question in each section. The paper is of 200 marks. Paper I consists of questions which deals with (a) fluid and particle dynamics, various types of flows (turbulent and laminar), viscosity, Bernoulli’s theorem etc (b) mass transfer (c) heat transfer, thermal heat conductivity, Conduction,  (d) noval separation processes and Equilibrium separation processes  (e) process equipment design, and (f) Process dynamics and control.  The questions in IFS chemical examination are both descriptive and numerical. Usually the questions are of 10 marks. At least 2 questions have to be attempted from each section.

The question can ask you to explain any chemical phenomenon or they can ask you to derive a particular equation. The paper pattern is similar every year.
