The National Law School of India University carries out an entrance examination for the admittance of students into the LLM and BA LLB courses. To get admitted into the graduate level course, students need to appear for the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). This exam is generally carried out in the month of May. The qualification need by one to appear for this test is a pass in standard 10+2. A minimum of 50 percent and above must be scored by them in their finals. Because of the number of students who are appearing for this exam every year, the competition for this examination is considered to be quite tough.

The exam will consist of questions of the objective category. Students will have 3- 4 options to select to correct answer from. The exams’ duration is 2 hours and the maximum mark it holds is 200 marks. Negative marking is not there.

Syllabus of the National Law School of India University (NLSIU) Entrance Test

The paper encompasses 4 sections. Each of these sections holds 50 marks. The distribution is as follows:

  • English  - Objective type questions meant to test the applicants knowledge in the English language
  • General Knowledge – Candidates must write short notes on a variety of topics on law.
  • Legal Aptitude - Candidates will need to write short essays on Indian Constitutional Law.
  • Logical Reasoning – Applicants must, in this section, write small essays on any theme based on judging prudence.
