NET is a nationwide based competitive exam that is answered by many students all over the country. The expansion of NET is National Eligibility Test. This exam is mandatory for those who are trying to get into the post of professors and lecturers in government colleges. The candidates have to answer both compulsory and elective papers. There are four compulsory papers including English. A list of 12 elective subjects is available and any two papers have to be answered from the 12.

Info on the question paper

Unlike paper 2 which is totally objective, paper 3 consists of descriptive questions only. There are four sections in the paper. All of them are compulsory. All the questions in section 1 have to be answered. There is no a single multiple choice question in the paper. To enhance readability, the paper is printed in both English and Hindi. The total number of questions in the paper is 26.

Marks and time

The paper is for a total of 200 marks. A minimum of 40% is required for passing the exam.  Section 1 contributes 40 marks, section 2 contributes 45, section 3 contributes 90 and section 4 contributes the rest.
The candidates are allotted two and a half hours for answering the paper. No reading time will be allotted.
