Identifying Your College for the Best Management Career
Today Management course is one of the demanding and popular career options for undergraduate and post graduate aspirants. The management courses gaining its popularity in Indian after the IIMs were established. Before the IIMs came to function in India, pursuing an MBA degree one have to take an admission in the foreign countries. But Indian Institute of Management change the Indian concept of business administration and gradually the institute become the dream of many aspirants so as the Course.
As the time went by we witnessed tight competition in getting an admission in India’s prominent institute. The competition forced to introduce an entrance exam for the admission purpose and thus Common Admission Test was introduced at the national level. But again the demand for the IIMs increased gradually so few more IIMs were introduced and the also the competitive nature of CAT is increased to the next level. But the successful story of the IIM alumni’s made a common interest in the mind of the youth to have a career in management. After graduation in any stream, out f 10 every five is looking for the post graduation in management and their first preference is still IIMs. Now CAT is like a custom to follow by every college pass-outs.
Some Reality…
The reality normally shows a different color than that of the aspiration/dreams. In a population of 1.21 billion people around 30% constituting the youth and around 14% of them are the college pass-out looking for higher options to study. The majority of this group is going for a management career and looking for the management institutes. But unfortunately the IIMs can afford around 4,000 aspirants, who are normally considered as the best talents in management. Where the rest will go?
If you are a college graduate looking for a career in Management, a ground reality you have to understand that, not everybody can make through the IIMs and you should have to look for the best institute to have your course, not for those who are aiming to be in those 4,000. So for a MBA aspirant, not only you have to select the course and stream it is important to take a suitable college/institute to study. These decisions will mix colors in your life.
Looking into B-Schools
The selection of college is crucial for the MBA aspirants. Your college’s credential is valid than that of your credits and grades. When you are entering into the job market, the employers are looking at the validity of your certificate. The course structure is more or less same, since there is a common body to monitor, but the difference is made there in carrying these common instructions.
One can study the MBA program with in the classroom itself, more in the theoretical way. Now the industries are not interested in the theoretical knowledge. The student should be able to apply those theories in the real life business situation. Today’s employer doesn’t have patience and open mind to make their business or organization a practical lab for the theoretical wizards. They are looking for the people who already have a practical sense and experience. The colleges are promoting these experiences in students by designing the course content.
In India Today thousands of B-Schools are across the country. Each of those institutes is claiming that they are equivalent or more than that of IIMs. They are blaming and claming each other for the number oneposition. For common persons all these claims are seemed to be true and there is higher chance that these traps may attract the aspirants. May these institutes don’t recognized under AICTE or any reputed university. Only thing they have is the wonderful and coloring ads and claims. The students should beware of such fake institutes; otherwise you are wasting your time, money and effort to pursue a fake degree.
Identifying the Good Institutes
There are many ways one can find the fake and good institute for having their course in management. The recognition of the institute can be verified through the AICTE website or by the University site. If you are planning to take the course in the specific institute, you have to search for their claims. If they are saying that they are functioning under the AICTE norms, you can find the institute names in the AICTE approved list and if they are claiming that they are under a particular university, you can also see the name under the university portal.
Only opt for those colleges which are selecting the candidates on the basis of the competitive examinations scores like CAT, MAT etc. You can also search the placement records of the particular institute. Most of the colleges are claiming cent percentage placement records, but you have to make sure of that. You have to consider not only the number of placement happening in a particular academic year but also the status of such campus placements. Some colleges are able to reach the 100% figure but the companies visiting the campus may not be offering right kind of jobs or salary is not meant for the MBA graduates.
The course content is also another important matter while taking a college. You have to opt for a college which is focusing on the industry demands like providing a platform for internships, promoting industry projects and conducting other relevant needs of the students that give them an advantage in the job market. The college should also provide training to the students which will help to develop different skills in them, which will serve as a platform for personal as well as the career development.
While taking a management institute you should also take care of the environment of such institution, whether it is suitable for the learning process. The facilities offered by the institutes also needs attention. A management institute must have all the teaching aids including the technology support. They must have a modern library having the management books in every streams, business journals, magazines etc. and should have a well structured computer lab supporting the e-learning functions.
Another way is looking at the ranking ands survey reports of different agencies. This will also help you to understand the status of a particular college. These are some point you should remember before making your selection. You should understand that these B-Schools have the power to making and destroying your career path….
