UPSC or Union Public Service Commission is the constitutional body formed for the purpose of recruitment of appropriate candidates to different civil services in India. The UPSC came into existence in the year 1926 on the 1st of October and it is operating with its headquarters in the city of New Delhi.

Recruitment by UPSC:

UPSC has invited applications from eligible Indian candidates for the positions of Assistant Hydrogeologist and Junior Hydrogeologist in the Central Ground Water Board, which works under the Water Resources Ministry of Government of India.

Junior Hydrogeologists (Scientist B) Group A

Assistant Hydeogeologists Group B

Number of Vacancies: Total number of Vacancies is 37, which is divided as follows:

Junior Hydrogeologists (Scientist B) Group A  - 07

Assistant Hydeogeologists Group B - 30

Out of the 37 vacancies, 01 vacancy is reserved for physically challenged candidates coming under hearing impairment category and 01 vacancy is reserved for PC candidates coming under visually impaired category.

Eligibility requirements:

Educational qualification: Candidates must have completed their Master’s degree in geology or marine geology from an institution approved by the UGC. Even candidates with PG degree in Hydergeology from a recognized institution are eligible to apply.

Age Requirement: The minimum age limit is 21 years and maximum age limit is 32 years as on the 1st of January 2011, which indicates that candidates must have born between 2nd Jan 1979 and 1st Jan 1990. Selection Procedure:

Shortlisted candidates will be called for written test, which is the Geologist Examination, which will be followed by interview.

Application fee:

Candidates applying online will have to pay are reduced fee of Rs.100 either by using net banking facility or by remitting the money in cash in any branches of SBI. In the case of candidates from remote areas, the application fee is Rs.200.

Candidates meeting the eligibility requirements, will have to apply online through the website of UPSC at http://upsc.gov.in/ before 19th of September 2011 before 11.59 pm and candidates from remote areas should send the application in prescribed format so as to reach the following address before the 26th of September 2011:
