Bengal Engineering & Science University shortly called as BESU, came into existence in the year 1856 the university holds the pride of being one of the oldest engineering universities in the nation. The university offers education in the engineering and applied science disciplines and it is also engaged in research activities in these fields. In the year 2005, the university earned the rank of being one among the top 10 engineering institutes in the nation according to a survey conducted by the India Today magazine.

It is a public university approved by the University Grants Commission and initially, the institute came into existence in the name of Bishop’s College during the British rule in India and then it was converted as Bengal Engineering College after Indian independence. Initially, it earned deemed university status and finally at present it is acting as a state university and all these developments were made possible by the dedicated efforts of the management and staff members of the university.

Bengal Engineering & Science University is offering admission to the students to the various UG courses through West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination. On the other hand, admission to the PG courses offered by the university is done based on Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering scores of the candidates. As far as admission to Management course is concerned, it is done based on MAT and CAT score. Totally 16 departments are functioning under the university to offer PG and Ph.
