The town of Serchhip is the headquarters of the district of Serchhip in the Indian state of Mizoram. The city also acts as the headquarters of the Serchhip Sadar Subdivision. The city is located in the central part of the state of Mizoram at a distance of about 112 kms from the state capital Aizawl. The district of Serchhip in which the city is located holds the pride of being the district with the highest literacy rate in the whole nation. The area of this town includes Chhiahtland and New Serchhip villages.

Government Serchhip College is an outcome of the joint venture of the people of Chhiahtland and Serchhip and the college came into existence in the year 1973. Before the establishment of this college, the children of local area were facing the problem of getting the help of neighboring states for higher education and Serchhip College was established mainly with the objective of meeting the higher education need of the local people. The college got affiliation from the North Eastern Hill University in the year 1975 and with affiliation from this university, the college offers Bachelor of Arts, Science and commerce courses at both general and honors levels. The college is provided with the best infrastructural facilities by the Government of Mizoram thereby offering the best learning atmosphere to the students.
