Porbandar District is one among the 26 districts in the state of Gujarat and the district is located in the western part of the nation. Previously the university was a part of the Junagadh District of the state of Gujarat an later, Porbandar District was announced as a separate district in the state.

The administrative headquarters of the district is the city of Porbandar and it is bounded by the Arabian Sea to the West, Junagadh District to the South and Jamnagar district to the northern side. According to a survey conducted in the year 2001, it is the second least populated district in the state of Gujarat standing next to the Dang District.

Education in Porbandar District:

Porbandar District has totally 372 primary schools, 49 secondary schools, 22 higher secondary schools, an ITI, a polytechnic college and eight arts & science colleges. The literacy rate of the district according to the census conducted in the year 2001 was 68.62%. The eight arts and science colleges functioning in the district are offering education under private ownership, while the single polytechnic college and single ITI functioning from Porbandar District are working under the control of the Government of Gujarat. Polytechnic College:

Government Polytechnic College, Porbandar is functioning under the control of Directorate of Technical Education of the state of Gujarat and with affiliation from the Gujarat Technological University located in Ahmedabad.  The list of subjects in which three-year diploma course is offered by the institution along with corresponding intake capacity is given below:

Civil Engineering – 60 seats

Mechanical Engineering – 120 Seats

Electrical Engineering – 120 Seats

Computer Engineering – 60 Seats

Transport Engineering – 60 Seats

All these courses offered by the institution are approved by the All India Council for Technical Education and the institute follows the admission procedure as prescribed by the Centralized Admission Committee of Government of Gujarat.

ITI:

Government ITI has the capacity to train more than 250 people annually into different industrial field like motor vehicle mechanism, autoparts mechanism, diesel mechanism, etc… The institute also offers training in the trades of electronics and computers thereby preparing skilled and semi-skilled workers for different industries functioning not only in the state of Gujarat, but also in other parts of the country.

Thus, Porbandar Districts is served by these two government institutions along with eight other private arts, science and commerce colleges for offering the best education to students.
